Mark and Hazel

We have spent over 20 years in the catering trade working for other people and thought it was about time we did what we wanted to do in the that we believe it should be done and are proud to be running Salamander.

Mark spent 12 years in the RAF cooking to different standards depending on the posting, one of the highest being the preparation and cooking for the then PM Margaret Thatcher and Russian President Gorbachov.

As well as the service environment Mark spent 2 years in the Prison Service before 'seeing the light' and getting back into serious cooking at the Farmers Arms near Richmond in North Yorkshire while looking for a restaurant to buy and at last finding Mevagissey.

Hazel has managed front of house and bar to the highest of standards in various Officers Mess' in the RAF (where she met Mark and the rest is history!) including functions for HRH Queen Elizabeth II and numerous foreign dignitaries and royalty.

Since taking over the Salamander in May 2007 we feel privileged to be able to use Cornish produce of the highest quality from the array of locally caught fish to the wonderful cheeses, Kestle Farm beef and lamb and the yummy strawberries from just up the hill, to name but a few.
